Links & Loves, Labor Day Edition

In her now-famous 2011 organization bible The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, Marie Kondo suggests picking up every item you own and asking, "does this spark joy?" Not to get too woo woo, but I feel like I'm doing the same with a lot of less tangible things. I'm still in that awkward, post-grad time of trying to Find Myself and Live My Best Life, so collecting the things I'm loving seems like a worthwhile adventure. Don't get me wrong, most of these things are still garbage, but maybe you'll find a thing or two worth looking at.

1. Kim Cattrall's jazz scatting

Sex and the City turned 20 this year, dredging up this 2-minute masterpiece. I was never a SATC fan-- I grew up watching reruns on E!, where FCC guidelines took out all the sex and left just the city-- but this video has me craving a binge watch.

2. Caesar Salad

I am living my white girl dreams right now, complete with a deep, committed relationship with Caesar salad. This Bon Appetit video  must have stirred something inside me, awakening an ancient, Lovecraftian monster that hungers only for “Cae Sal.”

Pro tip: the best Caesar is roughly 60% lettuce, 30% croutons and 10% cheese.

3. Movies from 1999

Most of my Labor Day afternoon was spent in front of what I dubbed “No Bones About It: A 1999 Extravaganza,” a handpicked double feature of The Mummy and The Bone Collector. They’re only the tip of the cinematic iceberg--Deep Blue Sea, Election, Cruel Intentions, She’s All That. I could go on and on.

4. Kolaches

If you know of good kolaches in Missouri, send me a linkedin message or a text or a carrier pigeon, I AM DESPERATE. This article from Texas Monthly cut deep into my Texpat soul. I’m only in it for the classic Texan sausage kolache. Fruit and eggs need not apply.

The L word. No, the other L word.

Keeping the alliteration going, after Loves and Links, my L word this week is Lindsay Lohan. Have you seen the video of her in Mykonos? She is LIVING. I’m rooting for her.
